One example is snowshoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spotlight on Language<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kanyen\u2019k\u00e9ha<\/strong>: Kahwen:kare<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Anishinaabemowin<\/strong>: Aagam<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can add these words to their Outdoor Learning Journals (introduced in the QUILLS Teacher\u2019s Guide<em>. <\/em>Students can also go onto the online QUILLS dictionary to hear the words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Students review the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/elbowlakecentre.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Snowshoes_2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Snowshoe.pdf<\/a><\/strong> to learn more about local Indigenous snowshoe designs and how snowshoes help(ed) community travel and hunt in the winter in deep snow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Extension:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Teachers may also wish to adapt the following activity: <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.we.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/WST-E26-Elementary_Science-and-Technology.pdf\">https:\/\/cdn.we.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/WST-E26-Elementary_Science-and-Technology.pdf<\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In this activity students examine how traditional snowshoe designs reduced pressure on snow by dispersing weight over a larger area.
