By learning about watersheds, we come to understand that from Western Scientific perspective interconnections are also acknowledged as significant.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;A watershed is a land area that channels rainfall and snowmelt to creeks, streams, and rivers, and eventually to outflow points such as reservoirs, bays, and the ocean (see image below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"707\" height=\"573\" src=\"https:\/\/elbowlakecentre.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Picture1-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4497\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elbowlakecentre.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Picture1-4.png 707w, https:\/\/elbowlakecentre.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Picture1-4-300x243.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 707px) 100vw, 707px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Students learn about what a watershed is and how it can impact various community stakeholders by engaging in the activity in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/elbowlakecentre.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/What-is-a-Watershed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Watershed Activity Instructions.pdf<\/a><\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/media.nationalgeographic.org\/assets\/activity\/assets\/in-your-watershed-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in-your-watershed-1.pdf (nationalgeographic.org)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:1\">\n<li>Students make a watershed out of modelling clay. Students can view maps, aerial photos and drone footage to get a better idea of local land characteristics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Class drops water in different locations on the model watershed to see where the water flows.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students can use this to understand what impacts their local water sources and answer the following:\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: var(--ast-global-color-3); font-size: 1rem; font-weight: inherit; background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">If you were to spill something and it got into the water, where would that contamination go?<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If there was a spill in your area, where could that occur that would affect your school\u2019s water quality?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>To care for our water, we need to remember that water flows into and out of our area. Keeping water clean is a collective responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Optional Extension: 7 Generations Teachings:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Class reviews <em>7 Generations Teachings<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wHg3enCCyCM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wHg3enCCyCM<\/a> Teacher generates awareness that we have responsibilities to future generations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In discussion teacher relates the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/elbowlakecentre.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Law-of-Water_2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Law of Water.pdf<\/a><\/strong> to the <em>7 Generations Teachings<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teachers leads a Talking Circle (instructions for facilitation in Teacher\u2019s Guide) to discuss how can you relate the <em>7 Generations Teachings<\/em> to the manner in which water flows through a watershed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a
